Agenda
Recap on Jan’s
Meeting: The meeting for January was a small one due to the
weather. We all arrived at the Mutart and found ourselves locked out. We posted
a note on the door and decided to have the meeting at Fargo’s Restaurant
located near Capilano Mall.
Feb’s Meeting: The meeting
for Feb will be a General Meeting and we will be having elections for
President, Vice President, Communications Director, Secretary, and Treasurer.
We will also be looking to fill the following positions: Newsletter Editor, Web
Site Chair, Promotions/Show Committee Chair, and Research Committee Chair. The
Feb meeting will also be a toy-making workshop so bring your pliers!
Letter from the President
Hello Everyone;
This newsletter marks the last one of this
Executive’s term. It has been an interesting 2 years serving as your President.
As this term comes to a close I would like to announce that I won’t be running
for President at the upcoming elections in February. I would like to be candid about the reasons
why I do not wish to continue on as an Executive Member. The main reason is the
lack of volunteerism that seems to be the spirit of this club. As the President
and as a Member of the Executive we have had to wear several hats during the
past 2 years. We have had no active volunteers for any of the positions and
when we ask for volunteers we rarely have anyone willing to do any of the work,
which is the backbone of making this club successful. The Executive has been
responsible for nearly 100% of the Research Subjects. We have also been
responsible for the Newsletter, Website, and Promotions Committee, as we have
no active members to do these important jobs. We have far too many members that
just want to come to the meetings and learn information about parrots but are
not willing to help in any way. I urge each and everyone of you to go to our
site located at www.eppa.ca and read
the job descriptions of the positions that we are looking to fill at our
February meeting (see Policy and Procedures Manual) and think about running so
you can put something into this organization. I wish good luck to the upcoming
Executive!
Sincerely,
Lisa

for Laughs
A guy gets on an
airplane and is seated across the aisle from a parrot. After take-off, the guy
politely asks the stewardess for a drink. At the same time, the parrot says
"hey lady, get me a drink and get it NOW!” The stewardess returns a few
minutes later with the parrot's drink, but forgets to bring the guy's drink. So
again, the guy politely asks for a drink. The stewardess turns to get the drink
but as she walks down the aisle the parrot yells, "hey lady, I want some
peanuts and I want them RIGHT NOW!” The flustered stewardess returns a few
minutes later with the peanuts, but once again forgets the guy's drink. Finally
the guy looks at the stewardess and shouts "BRING ME A BLEEPIN' DRINK ON
THE DOUBLE!!!” The stewardess runs down the aisle, and a few minutes later two
big burly guys come up the aisle, grab the guy and the parrot and toss them
both out the back door of the plane. As the guy begins to plummet to the
ground, the parrot turns to him and says "Pretty mouthy for someone who
can't fly, aren't ya?"

Book Review
Birds
on the Couch
by Gwendolyn Bounds
When you take a bird into your home,
you're making the choice to cohabitate with a creature that is an independent
thinker. Birds are much closer to being "wild" than
"domestic" in their behaviors, and they will think of you as being "flock
members." It is essential to understand how they think, and what
determines their behaviors to maintain a symbiotic and rewarding relationship
for both the human and the avian.
This book is well written,
entertaining, and informative. It is a "must-read" for any parrot
owner, and I would especially recommend it for any "would-be" parrot
owners, before they make the investment in a bird. If you enter into a
human-avian relationship with a loving heart and an informed mind, you will both
benefit for many years to come.
