Letter from the President

Hello Everyone;

Just some quick announcements to make. Since our recent General Meeting held in March we have a brand new Member of the Executive Nancy C. has been elected our Vice President. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome her to the Board. We also elected new Committee Chairperson Karin Y. Welcome to both of you! I also wanted to tell you that during the March meeting we held a vote to put together a Fall Show that will be held at a local Edmonton Hotel with the proceeds going to the EPPA and the decision was made that we will indeed have a fall show this year. The date and location is unknown at this time but we will let everyone know as soon as the Executive have booked the facility. It has been brought to our attention by the Show Committee Chairs, Karin and Marj that they would like to find some inexpensive items that could be used for sale at the shows. Anyone with any ideas please contact Karin or Marj or myself.

Recipe of the Month

Birdie Bread
This is a fun recipe that can be adapted to your creativity and your bird's personal taste. It is a great food to "hide" healthy foods in that your birds would normally not eat.
All you do is take any inexpensive commercial cornbread mix. To it, add a variety of veggies, fruits, beans, rice, etc. Don't add so much stuff that the bread cannot stick together. Cook in small loaf tins or mini-muffin tins according to box directions.
Note: To make eating more interesting, leave the muffin papers on when you give the muffins to your birds. This way, they have to peel the paper off before eating! Don't let your bird play with foil muffin papers!

Just for Laughs

One day a man went to an auction. While there, he bid on an exotic parrot. He really wanted this bird, so he got caught up in the bidding. He kept on bidding, but kept getting outbid, so he bid higher and higher and higher. Finally, after he bid way more than he intended, he won the bid - the fine bird was finally his! As he was paying for the parrot, he said to the Auctioneer, "I sure hope this parrot can talk. I would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!" "Don't worry", said the Auctioneer, "He can talk. Who do you think kept bidding against you?"

Pet of the month

The “Pet of the Month” for February was Skylar pictured below. His Mom says he is 23 year old, affectionate, charming, intelligent stealer of human hearts.  Originally Skylar was believed to be a Medium Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, although his owner Nancy is beginning to believe he is a Triton Cockatoo because of his blue eye rings.  He has a white body with yellow crest and yellow colouring under the wings and tail. Nancy and her Husband entertained us all with stories of Skylar’s exiting life and his many adventures indoors and out. He was a lovely animated character and we all enjoyed meeting him! For more information about Triton Cockatoos, check out the following website

Linda talked about the “Big Bird” personality of these lovely little creatures. The smallest Member of the Parrot Family they are considered to be one of the fastest growing species recently with a high demand for them in the pet market. THE MEANING OF RESCUE (SUBMITTED BY KARIN)

Now that I am home. Bathed settled and fed. All nicely tucked in my warm
new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget there is so much to
carry so much to regret. Hmm, Yes, there it is right on top. Lets unpack
loneliness, heartaches, and loss. And there by my perch hides fear and
shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave I still have to
unpack my baggage called pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me. Wasn't I good enough for
them? Didn't they want me?

Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things and take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack, to put away my baggage to never
repack?

I pray that you do? I am so tired you see, but I do come with baggage will
you still want me?

Looking for Individuals to write for a website

The Website http://www.parrotchronicles.com/  is looking for individuals to contribute to their on-line Magazine dedicated to quality information about Parrots. They are looking for writers - fresh voices to inform their readers about the latest trends, species profiles, behavior tips and health issues for pet parrots. They requested that we ask if anyone from our  club that would be interested in contributing a story? Perhaps a local veterinarian or another professional involved with bird care has spoken at your club whom you would recommend as a contributor. If so, we want to hear from you!  They also pay a small stipend for stories that have been excepted!
